Deadline

So the deadline for the Spiritual artshow is Feb 18-19. It’s good to have a deadline. I’d like to submit this piece. But I have to finish it first. I’m starting the job of digging it out from behind a table and a fan and a box. I’ve been looking at it long enough….

day 4

Hi there! It’s been a long time between day 3 and 4, but I’m working on this again. Just getting to the interesting stuff…..

I’ve added colored ink and gouache to the mix. I found “black” under the car.

I’m still thinking about the ground and shadows . . . .

day 3

I finally got to the trees and the horizon line. I wanted golden hour sunset colors–the end of a beautiful day: yellow orange (semi-translucent), quinacridone red, a mix of quinacridone magenta and permanent magenta, violet, perylene green violet & maroon, gold ochre, quinacridone gold, winsor blue-red tone, and I think that about covers what colors I used on day 3.

Everything is still all watercolor–no other medium yet. As I deepen the values and find “black,” I already see places I could lighten with gouache. I love having such versatile paints.

Next step: tightening the foreground. That means people.

I still have 4 pages left. I’m turning them slooowly

“What about the time May Potter ran off with Dudd Hart in the middle of the night, and May’s father heard her leave and ran after the couple in the snow to tell them he felt fine about them getting married?” –quoting Doris Caudill (from Pie Town Woman by Joan Myers)

day 1

This is day one.

I’m establishing “whites” and starting to dig into values.

Colors used: aurolean yellow, quinacridone gold, rose madder, thalo turquoise (and a little maroon in the skin wash)

painting started

Well, I decided on the photo with the car. I’m all set up and ready to go. Working on a larger scale is exciting and addicting and a dream come true. It may be 30 yd. watercolor paper scrolls for me here on out…..

It’s an artist’s right to change her mind

Hi there.

I changed the name of the project because I changed the project.

To be honest, the scroll was starting to sound more difficult than it needed to be and not so very much fun. So. I’m gonna cut it up. I still want to paint Pie Town, but I want to paint 4′x6′. I love the idea of painting in such large scale. I feel I can do justice to the figures in the photo.

I already have the first one almost picked out. It’s either this one:

or this one:

starting

Well, I think I’ll start painting the scroll in July. We’re leaving on a roadtrip to the mountains. See ya in a couple weeks.
