Why Pie Town? For one thing, I fell in love with Russell Lee’s photos from the FSA-OWI project –the same project that allowed Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and many others to document the effects of FDR’s New Deal on rural America.
My project for this summer WAS to paint a 5 ft tall 30 ft long piece of watercolor paper. Above you can see the design I came up with based on 11 of Lee’s photos.
I decided, however, that it would be more fun to paint the photos in large format. I want them to be more painterly than realistic. I can’t wait to start.
Also? I paint a lot. If you want to see, check out my flickr site.
